Mandy Misser

Well, first of all,I want to admit it. I have not been writing posts for a pretty long time. So I wanted to get back to you about that. I will try my hardest not to be a jerk and not write a terrible post.

It starts like this:

I have a aunt named Mandy in this country called Rwanda which I bet none of you readers have even heard about. Anyway, she has been stuck in this tiny country in Africa for almost eight and a half months and she is coming back home on December fifteenth. Everyone in my family misses her very much. She gets sick a lot. One reason she could possibly get sick is being bitten by a mosquito. Mosquitoes in Central Africa carry a horrible disease called malaria. Malaria is very hard to fight off. People in Central Africa sleep under things called mosquito nets. These nets hang from the ceiling above beds. The mosquito nets surround you while you are sleeping and protect you so that you will not get any mosquito bites and so you will not get malaria. We do this thing called Skype where you set up a time and date and you go to Skype.com and you get to see each other face-to-face. Do not get worried. Mandy does not and has not had Malaria. [Phew!] The people that own the house Mandy is living in have two pet cranes. I have seen pictures of them and they are beautiful. Mandy has also seen baby gorillas and she says they are totally adorable.I miss her the most. I'm so happy that she will be coming back so soon! YAHOO!

Interview With Mr. Talley

Last week, I had an interview with a farmer named Mr. Talley. I went there because it was a home schooling unit about the economy of the Northern Neck.
First, Mr. Talley took me for a long ride in his truck through a large forest that.t he owned. We saw A Fox family. There were three members of the fox family; A mom [that was looking straight at us.], and two baby foxes wrestling. The mom looked like a rabbit. She had big ears. The two baby foxes did not look like rabbits. [ Rabbits don’t wrestle.] there also was a sign that said : do not feed the bears and cougars. I got so scared! But Mr. Talley told me that it was just to keep the people from trespassing . Mr. Talley told me that I might see some wild turkeys on our drive, but we didn't. This is the end of my paragraph and I am gonna move on to the next one.

After the forest ride, Mr. Talley showed me his tractor. It was something called H-U-G-E! Here’s what it looked like on the outside: It was green and yellow and part black. It had tires taller than me!!! Here’s what it looked like on the inside: I saw all these funky computer thingees. I also saw a steering wheel that dropped right on my lap. The wheel weighed like twenty-five pounds! When it dropped, it hurt!!
After he showed me the tractor, it was time for the interview.

Mr. Talley became a farmer because his father and grandfather were farmers. His grandfather wanted to sell the farm to Mr. Talley’s sister, but she lived far away, so Mr. Talley bought it. Mr. Talley grows corn, soybeans and wheat. He grows his crops to make a little money and also just because he likes to grow crops. He plants his winter wheat in the fall, his corn April fifteenth, and the soybeans on Halloween. He uses machines to plant his crops. They are called combines. For the soy beans,it takes ten months until harvest time. For the corn, six months. I forget winter wheat. He harvests his crops with these machines called harvesters. His crops change from when he plants them like this; they change color, and size. The corn gets twelve feet high! He sells his corn to Perdue, he keeps his soy beans and his winter wheat after he harvests them. A farmer gets the soil ready for spring, and a machine flips the soil over. He doesn’t do this anymore because it takes the moisture out of the soil. Mr. Talley thinks I need a couple more birthdays before I can plant my own crops. This is what else he wanted to tell me about farming: He loves farming a LOT! He owns 250 acres of land! He planted pine trees about eight years ago, and I was born seven years ago. I am four foot two, and the eight-year-old pine trees were like twenty feet high. The pines are way taller than I am!

I loved my interview with Mr. Talley. I thought it would be boring. I thought we were just going to ask him some questions and leave. But it was much more than that. He took me around in his truck to see the forest , he put me in his tractor so I could look around in there, he showed me his huge corn storage tower, he let me pick two stalks of wheat so I could take it home and show it to my sisters, and more. If I ever become a farmer, I want to be like Mr. Talley.

Help for Uganda

Guess what, readers! we are trying to collect stuff for an orphanage in Uganda. The kids in the orphanage need all the support they can get. They need anything a kid needs for school. Ask your kids! They'll know! Backpacks, crayons, pencils, pens, pencil bags, crayon boxes, notepads, journals, folders, lunch boxes, anything you can think of for school, they need. Did I mention what an orphanage was? Well, it is a place where children live when their parents can not take care of them. Pretty sad, huh? We just want to make the orphanage a more comfortable place for the kids, so that they will feel better. So please. Will you make a donation? You can get more info here.

Thank you Readers!

Vacation: Part 2

Hello, readers! I know that some of you knew that I am on a vacation. I miss all my readers so so so so so sooo very much. Did you know that it is usually like 7 degrees warmer here than my home in Loudoun County? Well, it is. It is like PARADISE here. Like all you have to do here is hang out and play outside. Did I also mention that lots of OLD people live here? Lots of Grandmas and Grandpas. It should be declared a public retirement village by The President of the United States, don't ya think? Let me tell you a little bit about my house that i'm renting. It has a H-U-G-E backyard and a t-i-n-y front yard. And that's just the way I like it. I didn't mention that my family is renting a house on the water, did I? Well, we have a house on a little creek that reaches inland from the Chesapeake Bay. This town also has an assortment of dogs, cats, birds, fish, blue crabs, fiddler crabs, insects, and lots more.

Amanda The Cutie

Dear Readers,
Have you had a baby sister that is 5 years younger than you and you feel like you LOVE her but you don't like it as much as you like her when she messes something up that you are doing? I do. Her name is Amanda.Amma for short. My mom changes her name SOSOSOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many times. once she was First Tessa, then Amme, And Amanda, then, the weirdest of all, Scout!!!!! Scout, i tell you! It's only something that comes with life. It's human-natural. And sometimes, when you are in the middle of that time, you just have to let it go. Right now, I'm at the middle of that stage, so, can I tell you a secret: I sort of wish that it's 22 years later from now. [heehee.]

Temporary Dora Lover

Dear Readers, there is this cartoon called "Dora The Explorer." I used to LOVE it when I was her age, but now I don't like it at all. It's just that I'm a boy and she's a girl and she 4 years old so, I guess I have to wait until she grows out of it. But, when she grows out of it, Dora's not done for the family. I still have to wait till Amanda is over it.And that will not be very short because, she doesn't even like it yet. Plus, I think I have to wait EVEN LONGER because Tish doesn't like Animal shows on TV either, so I think we have to wait until we are old enough to agree on everything. But, it's worth waiting for. After all, they are some pretty good sisters.

Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?

Dear readers, what is your favorite board game? I like: "Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader"? I think it is cool. You get graded and you win money. Well ,actually when we play it, we just win points. But that doesn't take any of the fun away. And you have to start with a first grade question and then go up and up and up and up until you reach fifth grade. Then you go for the million point cards witch are really hard and if you get those right, you are smarter than a fifth grader! [Lots of applause].

Smart?

This is a poem about a boy learning a lesson about money.

My dad gave me one dollar bill 'cause i'm his smartest son, And i swapped it for 2 shiny quarters 'cause 2 is more than one!
And then i took the quarters and traded them to Lou, for three dimes-i guess he don't know that three is more than two!
Just then , along came blind old Bates and just cause he can't see, He gave me four nickels for my three dimes and four is more than 3 !
And i took the nickels to Hiram Coombs down at the seed-feed store, and the fool gave me five pennies for them, and 5 is more than 4 !
And then i went and showed my dad, and he got red in his cheeks, and closed his eyes and shook his head - too proud of me to speak!

I think that poem was very funny. If you like it, leave a comment if you can.

Penicillin and Toddler Cartoons

When Tish says grace, she thanks God for penicillin. Like, how did she even get to know about penicillin? Problem solved. It was in this book that she loves called "The Lady With The Alligator Purse". What about a crocodile? Anyway, some cartoons just don't make sense. 'Cause I was watching one today this morning and there was this old man that had a lot of food but 3 out of his like 57 rice cakes rolled out the door and into a hole in the ground. He started BAWLING desperately!!!!!!! Why cry that loud when you have all that other food?!?! Some cartoons I just don't know about.

We're All In This Together

Dear readers, do you have a favorite song? I do. It's called: We're All In This Together. It's a really good song. It's from High School Musical 1. My Computer lab teachers are so crazy about it that they made us dance to it RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE FIFTH GRADERS!!!!!!!!! We just made fools out of ourselves. I think they like it because maybe you can't do something by yourself, but together, you can do ANYTHING!! ANYTHING,READERS!!!!!!!!!! ANYTHING ON EARTH!!

God Lover

When Tish was 2 years old, when mom gave her time-outs, she used to talk to God. I was like, "That's like what a 6 year old would do and she's not even 5!" They can grow up so fast. It makes me feel like crying . Tish is just the real God Lover.
She is the best. In the next 4 years, I'll be voting for her as the US president. I stand up to her , but it will be hard for the rest of you because she will be president!!

TIRED!

Dear readers, have you ever got the feeling that you were too tired to get up? I didn't want to get up this morning but I had to because I had to fill up my Guinea Pig's water bottle. But now, I'm happy that I got up because I get to see the family waking up and that sight really gives me a head start on my day. And when I get a head start on my day, I feel really, you know, happy.

Dear Readers, Last night at dinnertime, my Aunt Mandy told me to throw a grape at one of my sisters. Right when i started to throw, my Aunt stopped me. So, I didn't know what to do. She was blowing this weird sounding party horn at me. It was a pretty crazy party. Anyways, my sister loved her strobe light and all her other gifts.

Have you ever had a teacher so nice that you just wanted to hide in the teacher's bag and go home with her? I have. My teacher is really nice. Her name is Mrs. Dionne. She has a huge dog at her house! His name is Mudge. I have seen him a lot. He's a Mastiff. He has a very strong tail, so sometimes it hurts a little. But he's a REALLY nice dog. I like him. Getting Used To It

Dear Readers, do you remember back in First Grade when on the first day of school you went into the cafeteria and you didn`t know where to sit, you didn`t know where to get your lunch? I know, scary. You`ve never been in the cafeteria with the big kids before. Last year, in Kindergarten, you were the only ones in the cafeteria, so you weren`t that scared. First Grade is a whole new thing for you. But when you get used to it, it sounds just like Kindergarten.

Frustration Exploding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone knows how kids get frustrated sometimes. Well, that happened to me just yesterday. My sister Tish LOVES to mess things up. Last night, my Dad & I were trying to make a Lego car. She got some pieces. But we got some of it to work. I just noticed that I am still angry. I am really frustrated. But, you know. Sometimes kids get frustrated.
